Circumstance dictates that my brief visit to Gdansk is extended. Normally this would be an unwelcome imposition but i find myself pleased by the difficulties that keep me here.

This evening I had arranged to meet with colleagues but at a late hour decided to rain check and take the opportunity to explore further this beautiful city. I eventually found myself in one of the...

I decided to take a walk and discover whatever I can this unusually cold evening.

Serendipity brings me first to a lovely coffee shop in a small street where less foolish travelers would likely avoid treading. The experience was so pleasant I decided to make it an evening of discovery Rubiaceae.

Eventually I happen upon Cafe Factotum. A very pleasant and relaxing place with, as...

What is it about milestones in time that invokes reflection and a tendency to consider change?

Is it that our lives are so buys we need at some point in time to stop and check our progress, to look back on the marks we make in the ground as we pass through our lives and measure ourselves against the plan, if indeed a plan existed...

When I was thirteen I used work on a farm in the school holidays and when I had lunch I used to sit in the driving seat of an old car pretending to drive it someplace in my mind. Years later I was still working in the holidays for the old farmer ad as it had become customary to sit in the car I was...

Ah, I really enjoyed reading that. I always used to enjoy just hanging out in my dad's parked car - even when I was 19 I liked to go in there with my ipod and some weed, when we were on holiday in Wales and the house was too busy.
Where do you live/where do you work? If you don't mind me asking, also what's your job? Curious smile

Sadly it was only a matter of time.

So as a tourist, and I'm sure even more so because I am a U.S. tourist, I can't go in the coffeeshops anymore?
I read a few articles saying that they banned tourists from the coffeeshops because of the "seedy" and "smelly" drug atmosphere that they brought to Amsterdam. But ummmmmmmmmmmmm what about the prostitution? So the people that go there to sleep with unknown random woman and pay for it aren't "seedy" or "smelly" wtf?
lucysky:
Well that is reassuring to hear! Hopefully it will stay that way long enough for me to get over there one more time!wink

I find the whole thing a little hypocritical on their part as well as a huge mistake as far as tourism goes!

The strike and troubles are over, it looks like I will be getting out of Africa on time however I was called today by someone who had learned I was in country and offered me another job. The pay is really good but I am not sure I can take another year out here. I want to do so many things and have planned to...

Scotland has spoken clearly and resolutely.

Why then do we in the rest of the Kingdom squabble like chickens.frown
annalee:
Yes, it's really interesting to see the difference isn't it? Scotland is not as lost as England I feel but at the same time we can't do a lot because we're tied to England. It's hard to know what would really be best though and I know little about politics and economics.

Oh thanks to you suggesting the moth I searched it and came across a great site - http://www.ukleps.org/Indexsc.html it would take a long time to search through all these though but that's the kind of nerdy thing I like doing. I suppose I need to look at what are the common species in Scotland and then look through those. I have a bit of a moth obsession lately and so I hope I can start learning about them a bit more :-)

This project is coming to a close and I am looking forward to a rest. I think I will take a few weeks to myself and then look around for something new to do. I have already been offered two new positions one in the north east and one the west country. The company I am with have also indicated there are other projects in...

In the morning I am going to London for a bit of R&R I return on Sunday only to pack and head out to Africa again for another trip.

Things at site are very bad, there are a few company men with egos in opposite proportion to their intellect which is always a bad combination.

The project is running late and a lot of very...

Card swipe HELL

I took a stroll a few nights ago and ended up in One Eyed Jacks, it is quite a cool bar and the locals are friendly.

One of the girls working the bar has the most amazing relationship with the card swipe machine; she seems to be waging a personal battle of wits with this simple interface to the worlds credit conveyance...
